Hello everyone just thought I would give an update on the Australian weightlifting team over here. I have finally got a bit of spare time, the first few days have been really busy with functions and uniform fittings. The journey over felt like an eternity even though it was only a 12 hour flight from Sydney. The synchro, softball and table tennis teams were on our flight from Sydney as well.
We got into the village around 1am Thursday morning and went straight to the food hall. We were staving after only eating air plane food all day. The food hall is huge and very impressive with quite a good range of food. The rest of the village is really nice as well. We are all staying in apartments buildings. Australia has two buildings which are pretty central to all the services we need. We are sharing with the shooters who take up the rest of the level of our apartment. I was lucky enough to get a room by myself. I will try and upload some of the photos I have taken so far from the flag raising and opening ceremonies in the next couple of days. The training hall is great, plenty of bars and platforms and the competition venue is pretty nice as well.
We have training this afternoon from 5-7pm and then we will catch the men’s 56kg which starts at 7pm. Weather has been pretty hot and humid but has cooled down in the last day, I have become the first super to sweat triple bodyweight.
I will be competing in the B session on the 19th which starts at 3:30pm Beijing time (5:30pm EST). So I am guessing it might be on channel 7 at 3am if we are lucky haha. Steiner has the highest entry total at 455 followed by Chigishev and Jeon whose totals are in the 440’s. Scerbatihs and Salem both have entry totals at 421 which seem pretty low, so there might be a bit of foxing going on there. Well that’s about all I have to report for now, I will try and give an update every couple of days.
