  • 2011 Lima World Youth Championships - the AWF will NOT be represented at the 2011 World Youth Championships.
  • AWF Youth Camp - utilising the original budget allocation for the 2011 World Youth Championships the AWF will form a Youth Squad comprised of five (5) female sand five (5) male Youth athletes born during or after 1994 who have performed the highest % score measured against the AWF `D' Standard in AWF sanctioned events throughout 2010 and up to the conclusion of the Australian Club Championships on Sunday 27 March, 2011.  The selected Youth athletes will need the endorsement of their respective State association. The ten (10) Youth Athletes will attend a Youth Training Camp at the AIS, Canberra during the period 3-9 July, 2011. The athletes will be supervised by two AWF assigned coaches. Three Personal Coaches will also be invited to attend the Camp at some personal cost and will receive professional development opportunities throughout the week of activities.
  • 2011 Paris Word Championships - the three (3) highest qualified athletes across both genders measured against the Senior Elite Male/Female Standards will receive 100% funding for the 2011 Paris World Championships, athletes ranked 4 & 5 across both genders measured against Senior Elite Male/Female Standards will receive 50% funding. Other qualified athletes ranked 6, 7, 8, 9.... achieving the Senior Elite Standard within the respective qualifying period and at qualifying events will NOT receive any funding but will be able to form part of the team and be subject to team regulations should they decide to fully fund their participation at the 2011 Paris World Championships. Should two athletes equal the same score then their next highest score from any other qualifying event will count toward selection and ranking, If one athlete has only lifted in one qualifying event and has registered a score the same as another athlete who has lifted in two then the athlete with two scores will be ranked highest and so on. This may encourage athletes to contest more than one qualifying event.
  • 2011 Penang Junior World Championships - the top two (2) Junior (born during or after 1991) male athletes and top two (2) Junior female athletes who register the highest score measured against the AWF `A' Grade Standard will receive 100% funding for the 2011 Penang World Junior Championships. Any other junior male or female athletes who meet the `A’ Grade Standard within the respective qualifying period and qualifying events will be able to form part of the team and be subject to team regulations should they agree to fully fund their participation at the 2011 Penang World Junior Championships. Should two athletes equal the same score then their next highest score from any other qualifying event will count toward selection and ranking, If one athlete has only lifted in one qualifying event and has registered a score the same as another athlete who has lifted in two then the athlete with two scores will be ranked highest and so on.
  • National Coaching Panel - the AWF Board requested that the High Performance Advisory Committee develop a Terms of Reference regarding the formation of an AWF National Coaching Panel. The fundamental purpose of the National Coaching Panel will be to raise the standard of the training and competition performance of Australian weightlifters at future domestic and international events.
  • AWF Athlete Squads - in addition to the 2011 Youth Squad the AWF will be inviting athletes to become members of the 2011 Junior Squad and Glasgow Commonwealth Games Shadow Squad. These invitations will be circulated soon after the conclusion of the 2011 National Club Championships.
  • AWF 2011 Junior Squad - the 2011 Junior Squad will consist of the top eight (8) Junior males born during or after 1991 and top four (4) Female athletes, born during or after 1991, who have performed the highest % score measured against the AWF `C' Grade Standard in AWF sanctioned events throughout 2010 and up to the conclusion of the Australian Club Championships on Sunday 27 March, 2011.
  • 2011 Australian Junior Commonwealth Games Squad - the Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) Board is currently reviewing the Australian Junior Commonwealth Games Squad (AJCGS) Program. Should the ACGA decide to continue with the AJCGS Program and inform the AWF of such, the AWF will nominate those athletes previously selected into the 2011 AWF Junior Squad.
  • Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Shadow Squad – invitations will go out to those athletes who have demonstrated the commitment and capacity to be selected as a member of the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games ACGA team.
  • Coach Education Program (CEP) – during 2011 AWF State Members will receive  the following payments regarding the delivery of any CEPs delivered within each state - $500 for venue and equipment hire, $150 for the supply of refreshments and $50 for each participant taking part in the CEP. A CEP which has 15 paid participants would equate to a payment of $1,400 to the State Member. This payment supersedes the previous 35% profit dividend paid to States.

Take a long term approach to your training - don't be a shooting star !

Getting to the top level in olympic weighlifting takes many qualities

One of most important things to take is a long term approach and keep consistantly chipping away at things....

Damo Ben Joel and Troy did not walk in and rise to their level in a couple of years it took 10+ years of dedication through lots of ups and downs and many sacrifices to get to where they are now
